Topographic Survey

A Topographic Survey is a detailed mapping of the natural and man-made features on a parcel of land, including elevation data, surface contours, and visible site features. These surveys are essential for site planning, engineering design, grading, drainage analysis, permitting, and construction projects. By providing an accurate representation of the terrain and physical features, topographic surveys help architects, engineers, developers, and property owners make informed decisions during the design and development process.

What’s Included in a Topographic Survey?

  • Surface Features Mapping: Documentation of natural features such as ground elevations, slopes, trees, water features, and vegetation, as well as man-made improvements like buildings, driveways, fences, utility poles, manholes, and retaining walls.

  • Elevation Data & Contours: Accurate elevation points and contour lines are shown at specified intervals (commonly 1 or 2 feet) to represent the shape and slope of the land.

  • Utility Information: Visible utilities such as storm drains, sanitary sewer structures, utility boxes, and overhead lines are located. NJR Land Surveying, LLC will submit a MISS DIG Design Ticket to gather information on known underground utilities from utility providers. Subsurface utility locations can be shown based on utility markings and records; private utility locating services can also be coordinated if more detailed information is required.

  • Survey Drawing Deliverables: A detailed topographic map is provided in digital (CAD) and PDF formats, showing all features and elevation data. Data can be tailored to client specifications or project requirements.

Additional Services Available:

  • UAV (Drone) Mapping: For large or hard-to-access sites, drone-based aerial mapping can be used to efficiently collect high-resolution topographic data.

  • Boundary Integration: Topographic data can be combined with a boundary survey to show both property lines and surface features on a single, comprehensive drawing.

  • Custom Elevation Intervals: Contour intervals and elevation detail can be adjusted based on project needs, such as grading plans or earthwork calculations.

A Topographic Survey is the foundation of effective site design and land development. NJR Land Surveying, LLC provides accurate, detailed, and timely topographic surveys, ensuring your project starts with the data you need for success.
